Duong Dong town
Duong Dong is an old village.
Formerly, besides villagers’ houses,
poplars densely grew into forest and
then forming the poplar forest here.
This explains the origination of the
name Duong Dong (Duong: poplar,
Dong: dense). Duong Dong means the
place where poplars grow
densely.Duong Dong town- the
administrative and economic center
of the district is the hub
connecting Duong Dong to Ham Ninh,
An Thoi, Can seaport and Thom beach.
It also has the airport and the
estuary for exchanges between the
island and other places.
The large market with many kinds of
goods which is located in the center
of the town is busy with sellers and
buyers all day. Most is seafood.
Fishing-boats crowdedly moor in the
harbor. Here, goods from the land
like rice, fruits and other consumer
goods are unloaded ashore and other
specialties of Phu Quoc like pepper,
seafood, and fish sauce are loaded
onto the ships to the land.
The central post office communicate
with everywhere inland and abroad.
Restaurants and hotels on seashore
are spacious and ready to serve
tourists.
Tranh stream
The name brings tourists general
feelings about its beauty. It is a
work of nature for leisure tourists-
a flawless painting of nature. Tranh
stream means the stream with its
painting-like beauty explaining the
origination of the place-name.
Some people with another explanation
believe that the stream which
originated at one height squeezed
through extensive thatch fields
before falling down and forming the
stream named Tranh.
In fact, this beautiful stream
springs from the Ham Ninh range
going along ravines and edges their
way through green grass carpets,
then join the main current to form a
large stream with the length of
15km.
The stream is surrounded with green
trees, grass and fragrant flowers.
The limpid and gentle current flows
through nooks and crannies, then
through large rocks forming falls
and lakes.
The fragrance of the forest by wind
mingles with this of orchid faintly
and sweetly. Tourists, so, don’t
feel small in front of the majesty
and profundity of the forest.
On stone steps, tourists can fish
while enjoying seeing the waterfall
or wallowing in the clean and cool
water. What a life!
Then, tourists will discover the bat
cave over 300m high and 60m deep
with great stalactite. Here is the
harmonious combination of Ha Tien
grotto and Ngu Hanh Son Da Nang.
Da Ban stream
It is located 16km east of the
center of Duong Dong town – center
of the Phu Quoc island.
On Duong Dong route 1km north,
turning right along a bendy road,
tourists will arrive at Da Ban
stream – a wonderful natural site.
The weather is as cool as that of
Dalat and it is very quiet because
there are not a lot of people here.
The stream rises from a high
mountain range edging their way
through big and flat stone slabs
lying in series. It is so-called Da
Ban stream.
The stream is so poetic and reminds
people a water-colour painting with
two gods playing chess on stone
slabs
In addition, tourists can climb on
stone slabs, deeply reach the upper
origin to listen to the stream
babbling and birds singing- like the
music of forest - A kind of music
that none of musical instrument
can completely express its melodious
rhythm.
It is totally relaxing to rest on
cool stone slabs while viewing blue
sky and slowly flying white clouds
as if sometimes stuck at leaf
canopies affectionately and
quiveringly. In a short while, time
seems pausing, space backs to
thousands of years ago, rough daily
businesses fly out and leave space
for the peaceful inner feelings.
Fishes in the stream goes here and
there.
Collecting wild fruits, dipping in
the stream, making fire in the cave
or catching fish for grilling,
tourists will have the most
interesting meal. For a moment, we
become cavemen in 20th century.
Dau fall
If tourists want to witness with
their own eyes the local who has
cleared the way, reclaimed the soil
and made the village. On the way to
the North island – Trang bridge
section, tourists can turn to the
northwest to visit Dau fall- area in
process of reclamation.
Royal well- Throne
Setting out at An Thoi commune, the
2km inshore trail with flowers,
fruits, weeds and tree shadows
forgets relieves tourists tiredness.
The clear blue water, in a while,
turns up; white sandy beach edges
its way around the foot of the
mountain like embracing resting
fishing-boat near the edge of the
forest.
On the background of rolling
mountains and sea and winding fogs
and clouds, a small temple presents
ahead on steep large rocks. The
vestige of a majestic pink rock
chair backing to the sea and facing
the vast field was called the
Throne.
It is said to be what the Nguyen
King left after many times of
running away from Tay Son force.
Shoeprints in a quandary are still
seen on stones.
Without water for his force, Nguyen
Anh stamped his foot and pointed
down the earth with a magic sword.
Then, a fresh water current erupted.
It is now called Royal Well or Magic
Well.
